Nottinghill Carnival – The largest European Street Festival

August 28th and 29th

A spirited event! The streets of the Nottinghill area were closed to traffic and open to the people for this two day event. The news predicted about a million people would walk through the festival. We walked in the massive crowds around the festival site and took in the lively parades that passed by in a swirl of colour, costumes and music, many of them cute children busting a move! There were numerous dance sites set up with live DJ music and just jam packed with dancers. Side streets held food, food and more food. Mainly a lot of bbq’d jerk chicken, rice and salad, with corn on the cob and fried plantain. The funniest thing was that amongst the many crowds Steve ran into his old co-worker from UBC there. It is a small world after all.
